Arts Organizations, & Arts Educators

2015-16 brings new Fellowship winners

AUGUSTA, MAINE–The Maine Arts Commission (MAC) is excited to announce its 2015-16 grant award winners, as well as a new interactive map at www.mainearts.com illustrating the grants’ statewide impact. The Commission made awards to artists, nonprofit arts organizations, and arts educators throughout the state, from Eastport to Denmark and Portland to Bangor in the following categories: Project Grants for Artists in multiple disciplines; Project Grants for Organizations; Partnership Grants; Arts Learning Grants; Organizational Development Grants; and Creative Communities = Economic Development (CCED) Cultural Planning Grants. Additionally, the Commission is very proud to announce this year’s Maine Artist Fellowship winners. Fellowship Awards of $5,000 each are made every year to recognize the highest quality of artistic achievement and merit in the state. One Fellow is named annually in each of the following seven categories: Performing Arts, Media Arts, Visual Arts, Belvedere Hand Craft, Craft, Literature, and Traditional Arts.

“These grant awards are even more special, and will hopefully have even greater impact, than before with the release of our new five-year cultural plan,” said Executive Director Julie Richard. “We are thrilled to be supporting these artists, arts organizations, arts educators, and communities in advancing Maine’s arts and culture.”

The competitive awards, as scored by panel reviews in a process approved by the Commission, included 30 Project Grants for Artists; 31 Project Grants for Organizations; 12 Arts Learning Grants; 12 Partnership Grants across organizations in three different categories based on the size of their operating budgets; four Organization Development Grants; and two CCED Cultural Plan Grants. Grants ranged in size from $1,000 to $14,300. The complete list of awardees and locations is at https://mainearts.maine.gov/Pages/Grants/Grant-Recipients.
